Development Linux Ubuntu

GRUB “hanging” for multiple seconds before allowing input (Dual boot Windows 10 with Ubuntu 18.04)

G’day all. Firstly, I’m pretty new to Linux, so I might not be using the correct terminology.

I have Ubuntu 18.04 dual booted with Windows 10 on a Surface Laptop 3. I’ve configured GRUB so that I can boot both Ubuntu and Windows from GRUB. However, whenever I turn on my laptop, there is always a period of about 15-20 seconds after GRUB appears where no keyboard input registers. After this time, a keyboard symbol appears in the bottom right, and GRUB works as normal.

As far as I’m aware, this has nothing to do with the GRUB timeout; in fact, the 10s countdown at the bottom to automatically choose the selected option also doesn’t start until the keyboard symbol appears.

Does anyone know what might be causing this, and what I could do to reduce this “hang” time or avoid it completely?

Thanks in advance!
