[ Chemistry ] Open Question : Whats the steric no. Of CH3 with negative sign at carbon.?

Every where i check , they say it has steric no. 4 having lone pair 1 and bond pair 3..how is that.
Because according to my knowledge carbon has 4 unpaired electrons, so if 3 are shared so there is 1 unpaired electron left,   which is NOT a lone pair …so how do i calculate the steric no.

ANYONE WITH AUTHENTIC  KNOWLEDGE.?
