I just read a German article comparing influenza with COVID-19. There is a table with Mortality displacement (rates? cases?) and laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza. I’m super confused by this table. I think I know what laborartory-confirmed death cases are: A person dies and the symptoms indicated influenza A sample (e.g. spit) is taken The virus […]
Would it make sense from the public safety point of view to allow the persons already having the antibodies to move more freely than the persons not having the antibodies? Or it is more of an ethical question than a medical one?
Doesn’t the dosing schedule for isotretinoin for treating acne vulgaris Isotretinoin therapy should be initiated at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg/d for 4 weeks and increased as tolerated until a cumulative dose of 120-150 mg/kg is achieved. contradict the following evidence for multiple courses? Before dental or surgical procedures involving anesthesia, there is a common instruction for patients to avoid eating or drinking for some time before their scheduled procedure. Is this because effectiveness of the anesthetic drugs are affected by a full stomach? (note: this question was motivated by background information in another question that misunderstood the purpose […]
I have vitamin tablets of various kinds. “Supplements”. They often (but not always) say on the bottle that they are to be taken once a day with a meal. That is, you have to wait until you eat and only then swallow the pill. Why not when the stomach is empty? I thought the whole […]
This story is a little confusing: Suspected, confirmed COVID-19 patients filling roughly 1 in 4 Ontario ICU beds More than 430 patients in Ontario hospital intensive care beds have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are suspected to have the coronavirus, a far higher number than officials have revealed. CBC News has obtained copies of […]
I have a bottle of zinc pills. They each contain 25 mg zinc. This is said right on the bottle to be 250% of the DRI for zinc. Why doesn’t each pill contain 10 mg, which would be 100% of the DRI? Why do they make it impossible to get 100% of the DRI unless […]
I found this article which suggests to me that chloroquine (hydroxychloroquine?) can make tardive dyskinesia worse. Is my reading of it accurate?
Can Savlon be used as surface disinfectant from SARS-CoV-2 virus? It is being said that Dettol was tested as disinfectant for previous coronaviruses, so probably it will also work well against SARS-CoV-2. But I have not found any information regarding Savlon. Main active ingredient of Savlon is cetrimide and chlorhexidine digluconate.
Knowing that the routes of transmissions are mainly (only?) eye, nose, mouth: https://www.who.int/news-room/commentaries/detail/modes-of-transmission-of-virus-causing-covid-19-implications-for-ipc-precaution-recommendations would it be possible to purposely catch it in a specific way so that it will only result in mild symptoms? Maybe even infecting other mucus areas inside the body (by let’s say injection) where it cannot spread too much. It can […]
